ASK-THE-VET: DOG WITH VISION PROBLEMS

Jack_Russell_SophieQuestion: Hello, My Jack Russell has been eating your Spots stew wild salmon for a few months now. I am very pleased with the product and she loves it. My question is, she seems to be developing some blindness, (she is almost 11) do you have a supplement to add to her feed that may help her, or are the nutrients in the food enough?

Answer: Although Halo food is well balanced for her life stage, supplemental Vitamin A and the B vitamins can help support eye and vision health–try the Halo Daily Greens supplement as an excellent source of these vitamins. Jack Russell’s can develop certain eye problems (e.g. lens luxations) leading to blindness–make sure to have her examined by your veterinarian to determine the cause of the problem.

Hope that helps.

i have been making spot stew for 4 dog’s that i adopted from the owner and i add vitamineral mix and for one i use the hip and joint great product there… and i use the x-tra c with the hip and joint along with dream coat. i have wheatgrass juice powder and barley max that is with alfalfa… i wanted to know can i use this on the dog’s too. i wanted to buy the daily green’s but i am too affraid of the word raisin in this supplement. i had a older sheltie 18 years old my grand daughter gave her just one raisin without us knowing my dog just got worse and worse the vet said nothing could be done we lost her . as you can see why i am so affraid to use this. i also have two dog’s one yorkie small and a toy mini schanuzer she is 2 1/2 lbs small also i have alway’s home cooked for them. and gave the supplements but i want to use the barleymax(barley&alfalfa) along with the wheatgrass powder but only if it is safe… do you know and how much to give such small dog’s and the ones i adopted what sad dog’s they were and now clean and healthy looking i am so glad we let them come into our as our 4 legged kids too. one is 7 lbs and one is 5 lbs and one is 10 lbs and one is she is older 12 years 48 lbs and on this diet she is so shiny and runs now… my vet was so pleased with the way she looks now. said won’t have to see her for another six months i spent alot of money getting these new kids healthy… but i could not have let the owner put them down. and the shelter would not take these poor dog’s but i saw something in them more than worth the save… i saw such sweet girl’s and a lot of love in their eye’s.and it was there and they thank us every day for being happy and playful. we are old now my husband and i and it is so much work… but when i look at their eye’s it doesn’t seem so much work in the kitchen. and they are such good dog’s and my andrew y. t. and leisel my m.s. enjoy having them into their home they get along so very well. and the big girl is so very gentel w/ all the small dog’s. are we not lucky to have found these wonderful 4 legged kids?

i have two friends that live in different states but each had a dog that died two day’s apart… both dog’s were fed science diet and both were still young dog’s and, both died of kidney failure. i am very concerned as my sister feeds her dog’s s.d and eukanumba food she switches back and forth. i have tried to explain and use my two older dog’s that lived into their twenties and both dog’s never ate treats or fdog food made just for… she tells me that her dog’s have the best …. that mine are the ones that i should worry about. but i am concerned as the two who passed away were both on food bought out of the vet’s office as my sister does.mine never have to run to vet for the different health woe’s of my sister dog’s. and are always healthy at each visit. i do use the halo vita mineral as well as all other products but i do cook home made diets for them.could it have been the food that killed those two dog’s. i fear another recall… and i just read on a dog sight that another dog died who was fed s.d with kidney failure i do not know this person just read it. and, very concerned for those who feed dog food.and fear nothing will be said and dog’s will just keep dying w/ out anything said or done. i hope you can see my concern and wish people would see that it is better to homecook for the pet but i never push yhe issue as i have done for so many years even when it was thought to be safe… i have just been a health food nut as i was called since the 1960′s. but my parents were that way and are in their 90′s still drive and put out a garden and yes they travel on lot’s of trips you would think of them as in late 60′s not 90′s and you are what you eat. and also i have info on seeds being use as what they do i use seed that my great-great grandparents use from saving year to year real food not w/out the(GMO0 that can cause cancer from that being added to the seeds it effects the veggies and ect. we all have to be careful in what we eat even some organic but i grow all my food and raise the meat and i know it is as safe as it can be in today’s world. and i do like halo and i do use the suplements but i don’t trust any other dog food company and their could be some as safe but i don’t change when i feel my pet’s are safe w/ proof but for any reason of course i would… but never in all the years have i had any reason to do so.thank you all for being on top of this day and age of the dog products as well as cat’s. i miss the bird food as i have a parrot from halo. just to stae my concerns. and wondered if anyone from the halo company has heard anything as to dog’s kidneys failing on this food. very, very sad. as my friend is a older person who could never have children and her pet’s are her children and is heartbroken at this time.my other friend does have another dog and has had children but is still hurting none the less.
