We are happy to announce a new campaign that will continue our efforts to donate meals to shelter animals. For the months of September and October we will pledge 25,000 meals of Halo Spot’s Stew to four animal shelters through the Pet Postcard Project, a strategy started by animal expert Nikki Moustaki to get one bowl (or one pound or more) of pet food for every qualifying postcard received to an animal shelter.
The Pet Postcard Project relies on the “food raiser” campaign where a pet food company agree to pledge a certain amount of food per postcard that comes in. Halo and Freekibble are proud to support Niki M.’s efforts this month.
The Pet Postcard Project is the brainchild of writer Nikki Moustaki, a well-known dog trainer, TV and radio personality, and animal expert who splits her time between New York City and Miami Beach with her two rescued Schnauzers, Pepper and Zoey, her rescued Schnoodle, Pearl, and two parrots. She currently has a half-hour show running on The Beach Channel in Miami Beach about the best places to take your dog in South Beach.
Nikki had the idea for The Pet Postcard Project a few years ago when she was training dogs nearly full time. She says, “I wanted to find a fun and creative way to help feed and fund shelter animals. People began sending in postcards with their pets’ confessions, advice, wishes, and excuses on them, first in a trickle, then in a flood!” To date, this project has raised nearly $18,000 and 92,000 pounds of food for shelter animals!
With the help of Freekibble or this 2-month campaign, the postcard goal is 4000 cards. There are four teams of Spokesdogs and Spokescats, each spearheading the campaign to earn Halo’s Spot’s Stew for a different shelter. Each team has 2 months to bring in 1000 cards, and the team who brings in the most cards at the end of October 2010, will get an additional 5000 meals for their shelter.
The teams include:
• Team Agility Animals Rule, campaigning for Animal’s Rule
• Team Bocker the Labradoodle, campaigning for Sabbath Memorial Dog Rescue
• Team Buddy the Puggy, campaigning for Miami Dade Animal Services
• Team Doxie Lovers Club is campaigning for Jethro’s Anipal Sanctuary
To have your postcards counted in your favorite team’s tally, include a note with your postcards with team’s (or shelter’s) name on it. Cards that come in without a designation for a team will be split evenly between teams.
