RESCUED CAT SAVES RESCUE CENTER

Amy Rowell, founder of the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center, was heartbroken to learn she could no longer afford the increased rent on her facility. But, when a 26-toed cat named Daniel came into her life, everything changed.

Faced with the prospect of closing the rescue, Amy was determined to raise the money for the down payment on a new facility.

In the midst of her crisis, Amy visited the local Animal Control to pick up a cat she had agreed to take in. As she bent down to retrieve the cat from the bottom row of cages, “I felt this knock on my head,” she said. “I looked up and there was the biggest paw I have ever seen!” The paw belonged to a beautiful ginger and white cat with 26 toes, due to a genetic mutation called polydactylism (cats typically have 18 toes).

“We made eye contact,” Amy said. “I realized that this cat thinks I need to save him!”

Amy promised the cat, who she immediately named Daniel, that she’d come back for him. Two days later, she did.
