Question: My cat is14yrs old and seems to be in good health but at night he has these attacks it’s like he’s hacking something up. But nothing comes up he doesn’t vomit. He is an insider cat. Can you give me some idea why he is doing this? Thank you

Answer: Thanks for writing in. Your cat’s nightly hacking episodes sounds suspiciously like coughing. Try to use your phone to record an episode. I would definitely recommend you see your veterinarian and show them the video. If it is coughing, it would be reasonable to consider some blood work and a chest x-ray to determine if there is something going on (i.e. asthma, bronchitis, lung tumor, etc).

Hope this helps.
