It seems that furry writers of the four-legged variety are taking over the blogosphere! A few weeks ago we featured some of the most interesting blogs written from the canine perspective, but it seems the pooches aren’t the only ones putting their innermost thoughts on the web.

The cats have something to say too, so here’s a few fun blogs that offer some insight into the kitty mind:

• Luxor: A White Cat — Luxor is described as “the whitest of boys,” and given the lovely photos in this blog, the nickname sure seems to be true! Stop by the diary of this strikingly beautiful oriental shorthair to read kitty thoughts and see some of the best photography in the cat blogosphere.

• Daisy the Curly Cat — The journal of this Devon Rex features lots of humor and kitty photos. Check in on “Fashion Friday” to see adorable photos of Daisy dressed up in her favorite outfits. I’m particularly fond of her 1920s flapper dress.

• Adan’s Everyday + Lego — International kitty fans may enjoy this unique blog, written from a Chinese cat’s perspective. Follow Adan and his friend Lego on their adventures, and don’t worry if you can’t read Chinese – fortunately, most of the entries are also translated into English.

• The PsychoKitty Speaks Out — The “PsychoKitty” is a very opinionated cat named Max, who refers to the humans in his life only as “the Woman” and “the Man.” Max, who is clearly the smartest part of his family, has been detailing his life online since 2003 and even has several books for sale.

These days, it seems like everybody and their dog has a blog…literally! You might be surprised to find out it’s not just humans getting behind the computer anymore, as many dogs are “writing” their own journals. Here’s a few fun blogs from the canine perspective:

• The Adventures of Spencer: A Mascot Dog’s Blog
Spencer, a 10-year-old golden retriever, is the focus of this journal. Though originally trained for film work, Spencer has since retired from the biz and is now chronicling his life as the mascot for a Los Angeles video production company.

• Mary-Margaret’s Diary
The daily diary of an adorable Yorkie, this blog features lots of photos and video of Mary-Margaret. She is soon to make her acting debut in the upcoming WE series F.L.I.P. Mysteries — check her out before she skyrockets to fame!

• To Aire is Divine
If you like Airedale Terriers, this is the blog for you! The journal of Bogart Handsome Devil is loaded with photos of the Airdale pup and his four feline companions. A very web-savvy pooch, Bogart even has his own MySpace page!

• The Days of Johann, an Agility Dog
Rescued by an animal shelter as a puppy, Johann has been training in agility for the past three years. Check out this blog to read about the life of this 2007 Cynosport World Games Dog Agility Grand Prix finalist.

• Too Cute Pugs
Check here for the life and times of pugs Pearl and Daisy. Features include “Pug Thoughts Monday,” where readers are encouraged to write captions for photos of the pups. They even allow their human mommy to show off her pug-related crafts in this blog.

The following post comes to us from guest blogger, Cat Sitter in the City. As a New York cat sitter, she writes a semi-daily blog about her experiences working with felines.

When I tell people I am a cat sitter, they always have questions.

What exactly do you do? That’s one of the queries, and people tend to ask it with a quizzical look on their faces.

I explain that most people hire me to make daily one-hour visits during which I feed the cat, clean the cat’s litter box, then play and cuddle with the cat, depending on what the cat wants to do, of course.

Do you really stay the full hour? That’s the question I get the most.

And, yes, I do stay the full hour. I even do sleepovers with some cats.

People are incredulous when I tell them this, and that’s because many people—even some cat owners—assume that cats are solitary creatures that are fine being left alone for days on end with a bowl of water and dry food while they are off on summer vacation sipping margaritas by the pool.

This couldn’t be further from the truth, and I’m not just saying this because I get paid to hang out with other people’s cats. I won’t bore you by citing studies, but do some research, and you’ll find more and more animal experts are declaring that domesticated cats are social—not solitary—animals with a strong need for companionship. As a cat sitter, I have seen first-hand how much felines crave company—oftentimes even more than food.

Take Fonzie. He won’t eat until he has had some lap time. Meanwhile, Pooper Katzenberger wants me to hold her before she chows down.

Other cats, like Juba and Lulu, do beg for food the second I walk in the door, but after they’ve had their fill, they want to be pet and held, and sometimes they get desperate about it.

Even shy and seemingly anti-social cats want some form of closeness. Case in point: Peeper, who, sadly, passed away a few years ago, didn’t want me to pet him when I visited, and he kept his distance. But when I sat on the couch, he sat nearby on the coffee table, and I talked to him, and during our sleepovers, I woke up every night to find him right next to me with his head on the pillow. That said a lot to me.

So, if you are going away even just for a few days this summer, hire a cat sitter to give your cat the companionship he or she needs. And if you can’t afford a cat sitter, ask a friend (make sure it is a friend who loves animals) to visit your cat and stay over a few nights if you are going to be gone for a week or two.

Your cat will appreciate the company and will be less likely to claw up your couch out of distress and loneliness.
