March 17th, 2010 by David Yaskulka

poststampsHalo, Purely for Pets is proud to join the United States Postal Service “Stamps to the Rescue” campaign.

Today, USPS is unveiling its 2010 social awareness stamp, “Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.  In celebration, Halo and our co-owner Ellen, plan to donate 1 million meals to shelter pets awaiting adoption.

According to Halo CEO Steve Marton, “We’re here to help make sure this amazing social awareness translates into a meaningful difference for shelter pets. That’s why we’re working with everyone to reach the 1 million meal donation of Halo Spot’s Stew. I’m 100% confident we will achieve our goal of feeding 1 million meals to dogs and cats waiting to be adopted.”

Animal lovers can make sure the 1 million meal donation is achieved by visiting www.halopets.com/stamps.

ELLEN’S MONOLOGUE “DOGS ARE SO AMAZING, SO SMART!”

March 2nd, 2010 by Caroline Chang

ellendogscapCheck out this funny video clip of Ellen DeGeneres’ monologue from the Ellen Show that aired on Thursday, February 18th.

Ellen really loves her dogs Wolf and Mabel; it was a few years ago she was looking for some dog food for Wolf who was allergic to everything.

Ellen explains, “I tried everything, our vet tried everything and finally I found a little company that had the perfect food for him. It’s called Halo, Purely for Pets.

So, because I think Halo is incredible, I decided to become part owner in hopes that all animals have the chance to be the healthiest they can be.”

Ellen is amazed by dogs, explaining, “We think we’re so much smarter than animals. Dogs can understand what we’re saying, but we can’t understand what they’re saying. Doesn’t that make them a little bit smarter?”

“HERE’S TO A LONG LIFE” — BOSTON GLOBE FEATURES NATURAL PET FOOD

February 11th, 2010 by David Yaskulka

bg-2-5Saying “the natural pet food market has more than doubled” since 2005, the Boston Globe explains that “Americans in tough times may scrimp on themselves, but not on Rover.”

We appreciate their talking about Halo and Halo co-owner Ellen DeGeneres as part of this national trend. They further discuss why people are willing to pay a bit more:

“Tighter budgets have many consumers spending more time at home with their pets, highlighting their importance in the family and making their owners more likely to spend discretionary dollars on them,’’ said Mark Kalaygian, editor-in-chief of Pet Business, a magazine for pet retailers. “And the high cost of veterinary care is making pet owners more aware of the importance of preventive care, which starts with providing optimal nutrition.’’

the high cost of veterinary care is making pet owners more aware of the importance of preventive care, which starts with providing optimal nutrition.

At the same time, the outbreak of contaminated pet food that sickened and killed pets across the country in 2007 helped fuel interest in natural pet foods and prompt consumers to feed their own felines and pooches only the finest.

“CATERING TO THE CONSCIENTIOUS” HALO COVER STORY

February 10th, 2010 by David Yaskulka

petfoodcover2Petfood Industry, the influential trade magazine, features Halo on its February 2010 cover. “Catering to the Conscientious” tells of Halo’s origins in Andi Brown’s kitchen, and the core philosophy that hasn’t changed for over 20 years. Halo CEO Steve Marton (seen on the magazine cover with his good friend Stosch) tells the story in an exclusive interview.

Here’s a sneak peak.

“Halo products have the best ingredients for dogs and cats. Plain and simple, that’s what we strive to be known for,” explains Marton. “That’s why Ellen DeGeneres became a part owner of our company. That’s why she spreads the word.”

“As more consumers are reading ingredients labels –and understanding what the ingredients are—our sales improve. For example, consumers are just starting to understand ingredients like chicken meal, which is a rendered meat.”
