January 1st, 2010 by David Yaskulka

snuggie“Halo Cares – And You Should Too!” is the story from Kerrie LeBourveau on the popular “WhatGives!?” blog. Started by eBay and now run by Causemedia Group (which also runs Ellen DeGeneres’ charity auctions for the Humane Society), WhatGives!? Is devoted to spreading the word about how social media can work for social good.

We’re thankful they’ve helped spread the word about our work with Freekibble, and our new Twitter and iPhone programs.

HOLIDAY GIFTS TO BENEFIT THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES

December 16th, 2009 by Diane Herbst

The Humane Society of the United States has partnered with clothing, jewelery, and a host of other companies for the holiday gift-giving season. Every gift you purchase through one of these sellers benefits the Humane Society, which promoted Halo’s and Freekibble.com’s Hi-Five event on its website.

Other gifts include a coffee club membership and magazines. One cool aspect of buying the reasonably-priced wines from Caravintas Winery — you can even create a label using your own dog. For more infomation, click here.

ELLEN AND PORTIA TO BE HONORED AT THE 23RD HUMANE SOCIETY GENESIS AWARDS

March 9th, 2009 by David Yaskulka

I mentioned this in an earlier post, but it’s really worthy of its own. At Halo, we’re very proud to have a co-owner who does so much for animals. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are the recipients of the Wyler Award, given to a celebrity or public figure who has made news on behalf of animals. According to Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, “They had a particularly significant role in helping to pass Proposition 2, and they helped make the case to the people of California and to the rest of the nation that all animals deserve humane treatment, including animals raised for food.”

Congratulations, Ellen and Portia — you deserve it!

Humane Society Gets Its Cabinet Choice

December 18th, 2008 by David Yaskulka

We generally stay clear of politics here, but I thought you’d be interested in this Tails Magazine story on President-elect Obama’s Secretary of Agriculture appointment — the post responsible for laws pertaining to puppy mills and dog fighting, as well as the Animal Welfare Act.

The Humane Society of the United States ran a campaign petitioning the president-elect regarding this post, and in the end got their man (though were less happy about the Secretary of Interior choice).

You’ll recall that Halo’s own Ellen DeGeneres was featured on last month’s cover of the magazine.
