A little kitten named Mia has become a big presence at an assisted living facility in Kalamazoo, Mich.
According to MLive, Mia is the resident therapy cat at Tendercare of Westwood and gets involved in all aspects of the residents’ lives. She roams the halls, visits with residents, rides on the back of wheelchairs and even traverses along parallel bars in the middle of patient therapy sessions.
Kayla Wiggins, life enrichment director at Tendercare, says the idea of getting a cat was at first just that – an idea. She and a colleague thought having a pet on site might be good for the residents and mused that a cat might be lower maintenance than a therapy dog. They visited the SPCA of Southwest Michigan just to “look.”
