One cat became an exclusive, and only, overnight guest at an Idaho Emergency Shelter after wildfires tore through his community.
According to an article in the Idaho Statesman, when wildfires hit Smithville, Idaho, and evacuation orders given, residents Scott Anderson and Kathy Connolly were out of town. As a result, their cat, Dupree, was left at their home.
Frantic, the couple hoped Dupree had survived. When they were finally able to return to their home, they discovered that firefighters had been able save their home, although homes around them had burned.
At first, there was no sign of their beloved tabby. But suddenly, Dupree appeared from under the house, covered in soot and some minor scrapes and burns, but miraculously safe.
“He means an awful lot to us,” Anderson told the Statesman. “We would have been more devastated to lose Dupree than we would’ve been for the house.”
