Best Friends Animal Society, the nation’s largest animal sanctuary, wrote about our 43,000 can donation of Halo Spot’s Stew in its newsletter. We’re grateful for the acknowledgement, but were especially thankful for the comments of John Garcia, BFAS DogTown Manager and star of the National Geographic TV show “Dog Town.”

The article explains that, “Best Friends understands the importance of proper nutrition and a balanced diet. That’s why we were so excited about the very generous donation from Halo.”

Then Garcia commented, “Not only do our dogs love Halo Spot’s Stew, the quality of which is absolutely amazing, they find the Liv-a-Littles treats to be so irresistible that we can get them to do just about anything. Liv-a-Littles have made our trainers’ lives a lot easier!”

Thanks so much for the kind words, Best Friends. Most of all, keep up the extraordinary work for animals in need!

Some pets are just too cute for words. Well, they really all are. Writing “A picture of a healthy Halo pet dog is worth a thousand words, thanks for making such wonderful products,” Bonnie Catalano sent us this picture of her Pomeranian mix Tinker-Belle. We couldn’t resist sharing it. I think she’s answering the timeless holiday question and saying, “Treat, please!”

There’s nothing better than having your most knowledgeable customers recommend you. When The Columbus Dispatch in Ohio interviewed Greg Garnier of Village Pet Supply, they complimented Greg, saying, “You know your stuff, especially pet nutrition.”

So writer Kristy Eckert asked, “You carry mostly holistic foods. Which do you favor?”

Greg answered, “Number one would probably be Halo. It is extremely healthy. A lot of people are looking for a limited-ingredient diet, and that would be considered a limited-ingredient diet.”

Thanks, Greg! It’s true, limiting our ingredients is critical for Halo. You certainly won’t find any ingredients deemed unfit for human consumption such as chicken meal, or of course any inferior by-products, meat meals, or anything artificial.

Chef Rachel Albert-Matesz, author of The Garden of Eating: A Produce-Dominated Diet and Cookbook, wrote a long review of Halo products on her popular blog, The Healthy Cooking Coach. We’re thrilled that Chef Rachel made such statements as “Your pets are what they eat” and told her loyal readers to “Read the ingredient list for everything you buy for your pets. Can you identify the ingredients?…Does it contain ‘meal,’ wheat, gluten, soy or corn (all common allergens)? My suggestion: Choose products with the simplest and fewest ingredients as close to the way you’d find them in nature.”

Chef Rachel explains, “With the help of several great books on holistic pet care and the Internet, I’ve found some companies whose products I feel good about giving my girls (her two cats). After the product passes my ingredient test it has to pass their taste test, which isn’t always easy.”

We’re glad our Liv-a-Littles treats passed both tests, though Rachel had the worthy recommendation that Halo offer smaller-size protein treats specifically for cats. I’m happy to say our baked cat treat are in fact perfectly feline-sized. Sadly, Chef Rachel’s kitties wouldn’t eat their vegetables when they tried their Halo Spot’s Stew. Hey, sometimes it takes a while (same for my human kids). Chef Rachel also spoke highly of Halo grooming products.
